The local currency in Martinique is Euros but U.S. dollars, traveler's checks and major credit cards are widely accepted. The value of a Euro is similar to the U.S. dollar.

You will often get a better rate of exchange at the local banks or ATMs in Martinique than you will at hotels. Although there is not a lot of crime in the French islands, visitors should not leave cash or essential items unattended. Most hotels have a place to store important documents or valuables in rooms or at the front desk.
